Social Media That Matters
So you had a MySpace account and now you have a Facebook account. You also have a Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn account with a number of other social media sites under your belt stretching your capacity to keep up with every detail of information passing through these sites thin. For many, it might seem next to impossible to work all day and keep up with all the different social media sites an average person belongs to. With so many social media sites out there producing so much daily information, you might find yourself asking which sites really matter when it comes down to getting your name out there.
While there are many social media sites out there, I think it is safe to say that there are three key media platforms that anyone looking to "get the word out" needs to be a part of. Those three sites are (no particular order):
Facebook:
A site that used to have a heavy focus on college students has expanded to include men, women, and children of all ages. Not only does Facebook provide a huge exposure pool of people for your information, but it also allows you to maintain a heavy traffic page for you, your business, or your blog with little actual updating required to keep people coming back. Facebook is the Google of online communities , which is why you need to be on Facebook.
LinkedIn:
This has become the one-stop place to be whether you work for a business or you're self employed. It continues to prove itself as a valuable tool in managing your career from networking to finding your next job opportunity. LinkedIn provides you with the ability to list your resume and a whole bunch of additional information. What makes LinkedIn a must for me is the "groups" or community the site has created. The ability to network and collaborate on work and jobs openings across industries and the world in one place is priceless in today's market. Plus it is a great way to advertise your business, work, and more importantly your brand (more to come on this in a future article).
Twitter:
One of the newest social media tools to pop up has quickly become one of the most important (and useful!). Twitter is currently the easiest and probably the most popular way of communicating with a whole bunch of people on an infinite topic of discussions. I personally use Twitter to keep readers up to date with my current blog postings (as many of us do) and to keep up to date on all the interesting conversations going on out there. What makes this tool so valuable is it allows you to reach a very large number of people quickly at anytime and with ease.
Finally, if time restraints are your issue; remember the beauty of these sites is that you don't have to read everything and make updates constantly. Browsing over to each of these sites 2-3 times a day for 5 minutes or so is more then enough time to read (or skim) what's going on and to make some quick 1-2 sentence comments/updates. That's all it really takes. So for those of you looking to get the word out on you or your business, make sure you've got the top three covered.
TechLifeMashup.com is a technology driven lifestyle blog written for anyone who has a interest in social networking, and self employment. I started this blog as a way to motivate people (myself included) through the use of technology (i.e the internet) to pursue their true passions and interests in life. Cyber Bullying Lawsuit Against Facebook by New York Teenager
As reported by Reid Epstein in Newsday, a New York teenager has sued Facebook. Of course there will be a lot of furor over whether Facebook is liable for its content in this case. But, I want to focus on two related areas that I think are more important in the long run than any merits in this specific cyber bullying lawsuit.
The first area that I think is more important in the long run is the ongoing effort to make new laws in response to new crimes, especially using new technology. The natural way that we make new laws begins when some people commit acts not specifically covered under the old laws that have terrible consequences. We respond by specifically labeling those new actions as crimes, and attach what we feel are appropriate criminal penalties. Then we see, by trial-and-error, where to draw better lines. The legal system is inevitably slow, inefficient and never perfect.
Given the increasing number of lives ruined by cyber bullying, emotional harassment and abuse, especially in schools, and the number of suicides stimulated by cyber bullying, I think that our society will make laws specifically stating that false and malicious statements and postings, in addition to pornography, are illegal. I don't think we'll hold carriers like Facebook, MySpace, etc. liable for their postings. But I think we'll hold them liable for ignoring complaints about specific chat groups and postings that they continue to carry.
Many states and school districts, including Kansas, Oregon and California are considering such laws to protect children and teenagers from cyber bullying.
One stumbling block in making such laws is where to draw the lines and the hidden assumption that cyberbullying laws can and should be made "just right" for all situations - never too lax, never too harsh. But the letter of the laws can never cover all situations with "just right" justice. We always depend on human wisdom in the law's application to specific situations. That's just the way it is - for better or for worse.
And I think that in this area, safety should triumph over cyber freedom.
The second area that I think is more important in the long run is parenting for the specific situations involving our kids and teenagers. Our job is to monitor our children:
1. Do they look like they're having a hard time (maybe being attacked by cyberbullies)? How can we help them stop bullying on their own or do we need to intervene?
2. Are they witnessing cyber bullying and are they struggling to know whether or how to intervene?
3. Are they cyber bullies? How do we stop them and help them develop the character to make amends and do better next time?
4. Should they even be on MySpace or Facebook or any social networking sites? What else would be a better use of their time and energy?
And of course there are no easy answers. No one is really dumb enough to think there are easy solutions.
There are no safe environments. Schools and the real world have never been safe. Schools and social networks are testing grounds for the real world. And the real world is not and should not be safe. Facing risks and danger helps us develop good sense, good character and the qualities necessary to survive. Imagine growing up on a farm, in a wilderness village or in the middle ages. Not safe. I grew up in New York City. Not safe. Millennia ago we had to learn what a saber-toothed tiger's foot prints looked like and how long ago they were left. The world still requires survival skills, even if different ones.
Our job as parents is to teach our children the skills and grit to survive in whichever jungle or battleground they live, and to protect them when they're over-matched.

Share Links - Twitter and Facebook
Social Media is a rapidly growing means to market, having others share your content, products or services via Social Media Websites has become a great way to generate new leads and sales. For example. have you ever been on a website that had somewhere on it a link that says "Share this on Twitter" or Facebook, or dig, etc, etc? Having these There is a number of different ways to get your content or products viewed and shared by using these links, which I will discuss in this Article.
For starters, lets talk about Twitter. To my knowledge there is no way putting a link on your site a that will automatically make your visitor follow you if clicked on. However you can make a suggestion for your visitor to follow you in the Anchor text of a link, and direct the link to your Twitter profile. For example, you would use anchor text that would be along the lines of "follow me on Twitter" and the url attached to the anchor text would be your Twitter profile URL (twitter.com/yourusername). Also on Twitter, there is a link method that can actually make a suggestion as to what the Twitter user tweets. The formula would look like this:
http://twitter.com/?status=This+Is+an+Example
The "http://twitter.com/?status=" part of the link is the part that tells Twitter to enter the following into the users status box, the following is the message that would appear in the status box. each word must be separated by a "+" sign. From the example above the text in the status box would read "this is an Example". you are allowed to insert URL's here but remember to separate the URL from the rest of the message with a "+".
Face Book is a little simpler. The way you would share your website is by using this URL formula.
http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=(the URL for your website)
Remember when using a Facebook share link, you have to put your URL immediately after the "=". If the visitor of your site does share your link on Facebook, it appears on his or her profile page. It will also appear on a few of your visitors friend's Facebook homepages.
Facebook and Twitter are two of the most powerful social networking tools on the internet. You may see an increase of traffic to your website if make it easy for your users to share your site on them.

Using Facebook For Your Network Marketing Business
Facebook is a rapidly growing social networking site, and a good tool to use to build your network marketing business. Here are a few tips to get the most out of Facebook for your MLM.
It's free to get an account with Facebook. Once you have registered, you can add whatever you wish to your profile. A photo of yourself is very important as you want to connect with people, and most on Facebook will not add you as a friend without a photo. Its important for branding yourself as well.
In addition you can add a photo album, this can include pictures of your family, pets, the area you live in, or places you have travelled to. The more you add the more "real" you become to your Facebook friends. You can add your web site or blog to your profile, and you may want to mention you have a home based business but I don't recommend mentioning much more than this.
Once your profile is ready you can star adding Facebook friends. In addition to looking for profiles of people in network marketing, you may also want to search for others with interests similar to your own. For example if you like to travel, or you love pets. Just like choosing friends offline, you will have more success online if you find people with common interests, rather than just adding people randomly.
As people add you to their friends list you can send them private messages or post on their page, often this is referred to as their "wall". It's very important that you just befriend people and not talk about your MLM unless they ask you. Otherwise you will be seen as a spammer and people do not respond to that.
Facebook has many groups that you can join. Some are by invitation only but most are open to anyone. When you join groups then you can post and introduce yourself, contribute to the discussions, but again do not promote your business except in a signature line if the group allows this. The majority of groups have policies against advertising, so if you do the post will be deleted and you could be banned from the group. However by contributing to the discussions others will get to know you and group members may add you as a friend, or contact you privately to ask about your business.
In conclusion Facebook is a great social networking site with very good opportunities for you to make new online friends and find business partners. It will take some time to build these relationships but you will likely find this very rewarding and a chance to get to know others that you otherwise would not have the chance.

How to Set Up a Facebook Account
Social Media is a great platform to meet and greet prospects to your network marketing business. Facebook is one of the top social media sites today.
People can get to know who you are and vise versa. You want to attract like minded people to your Facebook account. As well as branding yourself, you will be surrounding yourself with others that have the success that you want.
To set up an account, go to the Facebook.com website.
1. Set up your profile by adding your personal information, pictures, links to websites, etc.
2. Once you are happy with the appearance, go to Find Friends tab and search for people that have the same interests as you. For example, business, socializing, entrepreneurs, networking, etc.
3. Send a request to add them as a friend. This is a good time to introduce yourself a little and give a good first impression by adding a personal message to your invitation. Don't copy and paste your messages or do this too quickly as Facebook will take that as spam and give you a warning. I believe that you can add approximately 50 friends a day. Do that.
4. Search for Groups on Facebook. There are thousands of groups out there. Join the ones that interest you.
5. Create your own group and invite your new friends to join. Be sure that you always offer value to your group with the something will help others.
Now you are ready to start socializing and networking. Do Not plug your business while conversing with your friends. Let your new friends get to who you are. Find something in common to talk about and let it take its course.
Always, always bring value to others. If you have helped someone in anyway, then you have succeeded in creating a quality friend.
Okay, so get there, make friends and have fun!
To Your Success.

Facebook Applications to Make You Money
For those who are the owners of an online business, they should know that they need a website for marketing their products on the internet. For an online business to become a success, the main key is to target more and more traffic to the website. The targeted traffic will be able to increase sales and also increase the business popularity.
Marketing on internet is not an easy thing to do. The owner needs to work hard in order to make effective attraction and traffic in your website.
However, if you have a business website and wants something easier to market your business website, the best way is to work in Facebook with an application that attracts peoples to your website. Facebook is the biggest social networking website having over 62 million active users from all over the world.
Facebook provides you with a lot of tools that you can use in order to market your products, services or business website effectively and efficiently. The number of people subscribing to Facebook each day, you will definitely will be able to generate a lot of targeted traffic to your website.
As Facebook is getting more and more traffic, there are a lot of ways to market your products or services. You can purchase mass banner ads or use flyers targeted to specific people.
After the release of the new platform of Facebook's that endeavor in social media presents a unique opportunity for marketers, developers and businesses to tap into the social network's young, active, and viral crowd.
Now the question comes in to your mind that how the developers of Facebook applications can actually make money?
The past few weeks have been a rising concern among developers to bring out some new ways to monetize their Facebook applications. The developers develop applications for the purpose of selling them to interested parties. The important thing to be noted is that applications can have business value without creating revenue. Facebook Applications can create value/revenue by driving traffic to an outside web property and much more.
These are the several ways that facebook applications can generate revenue:
* There are CPM revenue models for page views of facebook application canvas pages. These vary depending on who is serving the ads.
* Monetization of digital goods that users of an app will pay real money for.
* Cost per app install models (this specific model is short lived: possibly 18-24 months while the app marketplace matures)
* It is my belief that uniform payment collection systems will emerge on facebook: either from facebook or a 3rd party. This will lubricate the wheels of digital commerce.
* Subscription models from application use: Tiered services and payment for higher level of functionality.

Should I Buy Photos on Facebook?
Why anyone would buy photos to put onto their Facebook profile is beyond reckoning. It is a free site that allows people to share stories, find friends or simply blog about their day. If you are new to Facebook or its competitor MySpace, then you may have a few questions when it comes to handling your profile and making it unique. A little knowledge about how Facebook works will go a long way to creating your perfect profile for other members to view.
Do not buy photos. Your Facebook albums can be filled with whatever pictures you want. The hardest part of the entire process will be sending the pictures from your camera to your computer and then uploading them onto the site. There are some specific steps that you go through in order to upload pictures onto your profile and into your albums.
The first hurdle you must cross is the Facebook login. Once you have logged in it is time to go to your account and find the update account information. This is the place where you put in your personal information. There is a section devoted to creating albums and uploading pictures.
If you need help, then simply click the help photos link. Facebook will provide you with step-by-step instructions on creating your albums and will have a section devoted to uploading photos into these albums. There is a maximum number of photos you can put in one album (it is sixty) but you can create as many albums as you wish.
The profile Facebook allows you to create can be whatever you want to make of it. Upload your family vacation pictures into the Facebook album pages and you can share stories about your adventures with your friends.
Having a picture on your profile page is a great way for you to find friends and have them find you as well. It definitely beats the generic picture that all users have when they first create a profile. If you want to keep some of your photos private, then there is an option for that as well. So you let people see what you want them to see. How easy is that?
There are a few instances where you do buy photos that eventually wind up on your Facebook profile. You may need a photo lab to print off your pictures onto a disc which would cost you money. You could also be purchasing pictures that are copyrighted by your favorite photographer.
But those are generally the only two cases that it would be acceptable to purchase photographs. Once you have your photos assembled, it is time to upload and create albums for your friends and family to enjoy as they browse your profile on Facebook.

Utilize Facebook Pages For Maximum Branding
Look around your favorite online hangouts these days, and you might see a common theme. No matter where you go for news, amusement, or online shopping, somebody appeals to you to join their Facebook following. As Facebook has fast become the most popular social networking among people over 30, businesses know it is a prime forum for marketing products and services. Everything from pet supplies to coastal resorts, restaurant chains to car manufacturers is on Facebook, working to get social with clients and customers.
Here are some important statistics on Facebook:
- Facebook has more than 300 million active users. This is larger than the population of most countries.
- 50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day
- The fastest growing demographic of Facebook users is people 35 years old and older
- The average Facebook user has 130 friends on the site (think about how many people read a friend's news feed...the word of mouth possibilities are endless)
- More than 10 million users become fans of Pages daily.
- More then 65 million active users currently access Facebook through their mobile devices.
- Instant socialization: Feedback is real-time, and you can communicate directly with one customer/client while promoting to anybody else reading the feed on your page.
- Search optimization: In blended search paradigms, Facebook pages are showing up in search under certain keywords. With a page, you increase the opportunities for being found online.
- Customization: Create a unique look for your company with a customized fan page.
How it Works
Once logged into Facebook, you will need to go to the page for Static FBML. Underneath the avatar on the top left corner you'll see a link that says, "Add to Page." Click to add the capability to your business' fan page.
Next, go to your fan page and access the backend. The FBML option will appear under the Applications section. Click edit and you'll find the means to add a new box and tab to your page. You will add raw HTML code into the new boxes you create, but bear in mind that FBML may not accept certain types of code like scripts and iframes.
With FBML, you can create beautiful graphic pages advertising various aspects of your business, even text pages of articles and stories relevant to your company. The more you tinker with this customizable option, the stronger you can build your Facebook community.
