Is Your Church Social? Part 9 - Facebook - Blogging Through Facebook

Facebook is a great way to connect to your church members and have your church members connect to each other. Facebook can also be a great way to distribute church information, devotions, and articles. That's because Facebook has applications which allow you to syndicate your church blog through either a Facebook Page or a Facebook Profile. If your church doesn't have a blog, I highly recommend your start one. It's a great way to communicate with your church members. Even if you don't have a church blog, you can still use this feature to syndicate other articles.

Let your face(book) do the talking:

So, you have a church blog on your church website. Hopefully, some of your members check the church site regularly to catch the latest blog articles. Some of the more web savvy members may even have an RSS reader so they automatically get the new blog articles sent to their RSS reader whenever a new article is posted. For the members who have an RSS reader and have signed up to receive the church blog, syndicating your blog article on your church's Facebook Page or your pastor's Facebook Profile, won't change things much. They probably would have seen the articles anyway, but chances are that most of the members of your congregation don't even know what RSS means. Many of you reading this article may not know what RSS is.

RSS:

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and it's basically just a way to allow people to sign up to receive your blog posts (or other kinds of posts) automatically through an RSS reader. An RSS reader is a program either installed on a computer or found online that receives all the articles (or other media) that a person signs up to receive. It's basically a way to just check one place to get all your articles instead of going to every website individually. For more information about RSS, please check out the article from the Christian Web Trends blog, "What is RSS" or their slightly more offensive article, "Not Using an RSS Reader? You Ignorant Time-Waster!".

Why Syndicate in Facebook?

By syndicating your blog article through Facebook, you can make more of your congregation aware of the blog articles your are posting by having the articles mentioned in their Facebook Profile news feed. That way your members don't have to remember to visit the church site to see the new articles, they are notified in their Facebook Profile and can just click the link to read the article. Also, but having the blog article titles showing up in your member's news feeds, any of their friends who visit their profile will see the articles as well. So, people who are not even members of the church may see the articles and maybe even read the articles or visit the church.

How?

Facebook has made it pretty simple to syndicate your blog articles through Facebook:

o Go to http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=23798139265&ref=s
o Click the link in the top, right of the page to add the RSS Connect app to either your church's Facebook Page or your personal Profile. I recommend adding the application to both.
o Follow the instructions for installation.
o Once installed, adding an RSS feed to the RSS Connect app is as easy as entering a title, pasting the URL of the feed, and setting how often the feed should be checked. The app will do the rest.
o If you install the RSS Connect app in your Facebook Profile, add the blog feed to your profile tabs by clicking the "plus" icon tab near the top of your profile page (up where the "Wall" and "Info" tabs are) and add the My Blog/RSS app to the tabs.

If you have installed RSS Connect in your church's Facebook Page, the blog articles should appear in a box on the page. If you have added RSS Connect to your personal profile and have added it to your profile tabs, the articles can be viewed by clicking the "My Blog/RSS" tab. The articles will automatically be updated on your Facebook Page or Profile whenever a new article is posted.

The Real Power of Facebook Syndication:

Having the blog syndicated on your church's Facebook Page or your Facebook Profile is good, but the real benefit of doing this through Facebook requires one more step. When viewing the blog articles in Facebook you should see an option to "Share" the article. For any article, click the "Share" option and post a comment to your profile. This will add a comment to your profile's news feed which will cause the comment to be displayed on all your "friends" profiles. You've now just put the blog article in front of every person who has signed on as a friend.

That's good church marketing. It should be noted that this is done through your personal profile. So, if you have created a profile for a member of the church (possibly the pastor) which is serving as a sort of church profile, then you would want to use the "share" option for that profile. Also, remember that any other profile can do this as well, so all your members could use the "share" option and that would put the article in front of all their friends.

So, go ahead and give it a try. Syndicating blog articles can be a great way to distribute church news, Pastor blogs, sermon blogs, devotions, and other info. While RSS Connect can be used to syndicate can be used for your own blog(s), it can any other rss feeds as well. Perhaps your denomination headquarters produces a daily blog or devotion that is available with rss or maybe there is a Christian publication with a regular feed or a Christian blog.

3 Facebook Tips - Connecting With Friends

Have you connected with someone as a result of Facebook? Facebook has many purposes. You can gain new friends, use it as an outlet for public relations and marketing, and reconnect with friends you have not spoken to for a long time. Facebook can be addicting and at the same time many people want to build a larger group of friends. Consider these ideas for strengthening your friendships on Facebook.

Organize your friend list. When I began using Facebook I learned how to organize my friend list. I have people I am connected to placed in groups according to my association. For example, I have a family group, leaders in Christian ministry, business men, business women, coaching relationships, local connections, and one group of friends I have who I knew in my high school years. I then choose one group at a time to read their posts and make comments. I am more likely to stay focused as many of these people are also connected to each other and are making comments on each other's posts. This tip also helps me in managing my time on Facebook.

Recognize when to post a public comment or send an email. With Facebook, you do have the option of sending a slightly more private email. Be considerate on the language you use in a post. And also think about the topic being publically shared. You can also consider the feature of hiding your friends' posts on your wall. It is easy to forget that others are reading our conversations. And, those reading the conversation are only seeing part of who we are.

Know some instant chat etiquette. Not everyone likes the feature of on-line chat. Don't be offended if some one does not respond to you when you approach them using the on-line chat. Sometimes people have Facebook minimized or they are doing something else and don't really feel like chatting. People like to just observe others on-line, just like in a physical group setting. If you don't like the chat feature, you can change your settings so people are not able to approach you. When you do want to chat, start with a simple greeting like, "Hi, how are you today?" If you get no response, that is OK.

Living in an isolated location I have discovered that technology is a great way to build friendships. Life has also taught me that friendships are to be treasured. I use Facebook to stay connected with others with the goal of being authentic. Most days I am not able to go have coffee with a friend and still the need of being around others is present. Managing time on Facebook is sometimes challenging. Like many aspects of life, it is so easy to lose track of time. My goal is to remember that the technology is only one way to strengthen friendships.

Facebook As an Online Recruitment Tool For Masses

If you are in an internet cafe, just glance around. You will see at least half of the monitors will be displaying the familiar pages of facebook. For all those who are not familiar with this blue and white page, facebook is a community of people with common interests who connect through common platform to learn, work, play, organize and most importantly 'socialize'. Facebook as an online recruiting tool has gathered greater pace in past two years with corporate world showing considerable amount of interest in investing time and money to be a part of the trend system.

The Human Resource departments (HR) were one of the first corporate units, to recognize the benefits of facebook either for social recruiting or to assure a more cohesive workforce. Though the initial idea behind this social media was networking, consumer makers soon recognize the potential of facebook as brand promotion tolls. Often this online revolution is initiated and managed by the internal employee (in most cases a marketing or HR head) who is keen user of the facebook tools available and has realizes the potential of media for business recruitments.

Facebook as an online recruitment tool has been successful in delivering what was expected out of it and maybe way beyond the expectations of the founder. Various global names like Ernst and Young, Deloitte. Hallmark and Apple all are witnesses and beneficiaries of Facebook recruitment strategies. The medium had been successful in creating a strategy to connect with passive users on long term basis to identify and encourage talent pools. For example, an Australian based business group called Bushells was successful in creating a group of 8500 people who make daily comments and thoughts about the company.

The enormous response to Facebook as an online recruitment tool is evident from the fact that the average median of age among the users is about 33 years. Following are few important factors that make facebook as a widely accepted recruitment tool:

- Perfect online space to advertise job opportunities
- It creates a network with industry leaders thereby ensuring constant exchange of information.
- It acts as a source for candidates who are seeking jobs at a much wider medium with less labor and money.
- It can be used as a employer branding tool to build a positive image among the candidates
- It has a reach to wider and passive audiences at one go.
- It allows immediate response to candidates feedbacks, complaints and queries
- Encourages discussions on various recruitment strategies and trends
- Facebook in short has the power to engage in conversations and headhunt talents on absolute cost free scale.

Companies have decided to join the war to recruit the best of graduating crop and social networking sites seems to provide an extra cutting edge for the war. Companies using facebook seemed pleased with the result. For example T-mobile, the phone company was successful in connecting with 42 graduates through a single account in facebook. In short, Facebook as an online recruitment tool has many positives that cannot be ignored in the near future.

Make Money With Facebook - Use the Popular Social Network Site Facebook to Make Money

If you have been on Facebook recently then you've most likely seen some of the ads on the sides of the pages. Not the banner ads, which are usually reserved for big companies, Social Ads are a fast and a reasonably priced way for anybody to get in touch with the Facebook market. You can find these adds either on the side of the page and now they can be found on the user's News Feed and also attached to friends' walls.

On Facebook, the ad structure is CPC which stands for cost-per-click and means that you pay a fee each time somebody clicks on your ad or CPM which charges you for impressions or the number of times your ad can be seen on a page. When you initially publish the ad, you buy account credit which will goes towards each click. In other words, let's say each click costs $0.20, and then you can purchase $10 of credit, then you will pay this amount once you get 50 clicks. Your ad will keep showing on pages until you get all the clicks and your credit then runs out. The great thing about advertising your home business or other business is you can make money online using Facebook as your marketing tool.

When your ad is up, Facebook will keep track of your statistics with tools called Facebook Insights. Once you create and post an ad, you can go back and refill your account or keep track of the number of clicks your ad is getting each day. You can also modify it anytime. Facebook tools will allow you to view reports on the number of impressions, clicks, and other useful stats, which can help you figure out how to make your ad better and expand your home business.

So now you know how to work with social ads on Facebook. But how can you make money online using Facebook to make profits for your home business. Well, if you have a website for your business then you can have your ad linked to your site and direct potential customers to buy your products or services. However, there are other ways of making money online using Facebook. If you are just getting started on your home business or just want to use the internet to make money, not necessarily sell a product or provide a service then online ads with Facebook will also help you make money at home. You don't have to sell your own products. Many affiliates will pay you to post their links.

If you have an internet business that you are just getting started with, you will want to try and get as many people to visit your site as possible. One way of doing this is to build a list of people that you have on your Facebook account by adding targeted people as your friends on a daily basis. You will have complete strangers accept your friend request and then you can start building a relationship with them in order to direct them to your site and potentially sell them something. This works.

Can I Use Facebook in My PPC Advertising?

Pay Per Click is not only Google and Yahoo anymore. Microsoft's search engine Bing is moving up with an increasing market and so far the competition and prices at Bing are a bit lower than at the two larger markets. But there is a new player on the field. Looking at website traffic, Facebook is now number three after Google and Yahoo, and it was not surprising that this opened up for new ways to monetize all that traffic. And so they did. Facebook advertising is still a rather small market, but it has some major advantages. First of all, the price. CPC (cost per click) ratio is about 1/10th compared to Google. Secondly, you are allowed to use pictures in your ads. Actually, that is a must, and that really gives you a chance to create an even more challenging ad. Thirdly, the setup of an ad is quite easy and can be done in a couple of minutes. Your ad then has to be revised by Facebook.

But here comes the challenge! Facebook does not allow certain business areas. In section five of the "Facebook Advertising Guidelines", called prohibited content, there is a list with several banned areas. Working with Internet Marketing, paragraph 8 can be the difficult one. It says: "Get rich quick and other money making opportunities that offer compensation for little or no investment, including money making schemes positioned as alternatives to part-time or full-time employment"

As stated, several MLM businesses or quick cash systems can not marketed in Facebook ads. But if you are marketing something with real products, personal development services or education, you will be on the safe side.

Another thing to take care of, is your landing page. If Facebook thinks that your page does not fulfill their requirements, they will disapprove of your campaign. Here is an area where you can be creative. Putting out a video with your personal presentation of your business, might be one way to do it.

So to sum up this new marketing opportunity, you have to deliver value to Facebook customers. You can not just try to sell any standard moneymaking landing page that you might find on Google. But if you have something more substantial, Facebook might be a great new market.

But remember that you are still on Facebook land. If too many people uses the dislike button on your ad, Facebook will close you down, and you have to come up with something new.

Facebook Fan Pages For Your Business

Facebook is a social networking site that has evolved into a bludgeoning marketing tool on the web; and since then, more companies are recognizing the viral effect the site has in regards to promoting a business or product. Other social networking sites like Twitter and Digg are also used for marketing, but Facebook continues to be the top dog as an online marketing tool because of its plethora of online tools that are readily accessible.

Today, Facebook has 35 million users, and its sphere of influence covers almost all types of demographics in terms of age, gender, geography and social status. If you're going to utilize internet network marketing, you would do well to utilize Facebook as a tool to promote your products and services.

The most employable tool in Facebook marketing is the Fan Page, which we are about to discuss.

A Fan Page is a service on Facebook that is relatively easy to use. In fact, even casual Facebook users can create one! During the fan page creation, you can fill up information regarding your company and its products. Be concise about it, but don't forget the key details, such as the brief history of your company, and the benefits your products can provide to the users. Once you've set up a fan page, its name can turn up in searches. The ability to choose a category your fan page is under also helps with its visibility on search engines. This helps with acquiring fans that might have an interest in your product since the search results are filtered to relevant results depending on the category the users choose. It is also imperative that you have an attention-grabbing logo that you can upload as the main photo. All of this will be seen and read by an interested user. If impressed, the knee-jerk reaction would be to click on the "Become a Fan" button, and voila - a new lead! Any update - a video, a link, a status message - can be seen by a user on his live feed. If the user happened to like a particular update you've posted and believes that some of his friends might want to see it, he is wont to "Share" it to his own network, which should eventually create more opportunities to gain your page more "Fans".

After you have created your initial fan base, remember that the work does not stop there. As an admin, you have the responsibility to maintain the page, answer questions posted by fans, and sometimes engage in small talk. Your team should continuously create videos and articles that can be uploaded on the Fan Page to keep the fans coming back, and in turn, have them posted on their live feed.

One of the most useful features about a Fan Page is "Insights", which can only be used by the administrator and selected officers. It's a reporting tool that helps you find out the various types of content your fans enjoy interacting with. Use this at your disposal in order to use trends to your advantage.
